Prostitution Sting Brings 33 Arrests O n Friday and Saturday night, M ay 11th and 12th, Southeast Pre cinct officers conducted a prostitu tion m ission along both N.E. Sandy Boulevard and 82nd Avenue. The mission resulted in 33 men being arrested on prostitution re lated charges. One individual was additionally charged with endan gering the welfare o f a minor be cause he had his 2-1/2 year-old daughter with him as he negotiated for a car date. A nother arrest was made for ex-con in possession o f a firearm. Several vehicles were towed. Man Wanted for Bank Fraud The Bellevue, W ash. Po lice D epartm ent, in coopera tion with C rim e Stoppers, is asking for your help in identi fying and apprehending the person responsible for a fraud with a Portland connection. On Feb. 11, a man pre sented a stolen and forged check at a US Bank located in sid e L a r ry ’s M ark et in Bellevue. The suspect cashed the check after presenting an O regon State d riv e r’s li c e n se and a “ D isc o v e r” credit card in the name o f a Portland man. The license has been shown to be a coun terfeit, and the credit card has been taken during a bur glary, which occurred at an office on Southwest M ac adam Avenue in Portland on July 15. The suspect is de scribed as a white male in his late 2 0 ’s or early 30’s, 5 ’ 10” to 6 ’0” tall, weighing 180 pounds. The suspect was well groom ed, and appeared very calm and confident. New Speed Limit Gains Support (AP) - Speedy drivers w ould have the law on th eir side u n der a proposal ap p ro v ed by a Senate panel. Sen. R andy M iller, sponsor o f the bill to raise O re g o n ’s speed lim it to 75 m ph, says the current 65 m ph lim it d o e sn ’t fac e th e r e a lity th a t m o st people d rive at least 70 m ph. “ I t ’s in su ltin g to m ost law enforcem ent and to our d riv e rs,” the Lake O sw ego R e publican said. “ W e have put them in a position o f enforcing a law th at no one re sp e c ts.” M ille r’s p ro p o sal, SB 502, w ould give the O regon D e partm ent o f T ransportation the au th o rity to set speed lim its o f up to 75 m ph. O regon and Iow a are the only states w est o f the M is sissip p i R iver to have a g en eral speed lim it un d er 70 mph. “ T here are parts o f this state w here it m akes a b so lu te ly no sense to set the speed lim it at 6 5 ,” M iller said. G ov. John K itzh ab er vetoed a sim ila r 1999 m easure to in crease speed lim its, but has said h e ’s w illing to reconsider the issue this session.
